David was born in 1833 the son of David Watson Martin and Selina (Deacon) Martin.[1]
1841 Census on the 6th June 1841 David and his siblings James and Selina were living at Westmorland Place, Shoreditch St Leonard, Middlesex, England, United Kingdom living with their father David and his second wife Emma, and their sons Frederick and Henry shown as Harry. Thomas Deacon aged 19, possibly a relative was also there.[2][3]
1851 Census on the 30th March 1851 David a clerk in Her Majesty's printer's bible office, was lodging at 16 Green Terrace, Clerkenwell, Middlesex.[4]
