1922 - Alleyn Edward Lewis Martin was the youngest child of Lewis John Keays Martin and Ruby Kathleen Bowler and was born in Arcadia, New South Wales, Australia. The family lived on an Orange orchard in Arcadia. Alleyn's first name was in honour of Alleyn Thomas Edols who was his mother's nephew who had died in World War I in 1917. Alleyn's Aunt Lillian Bowler was married to Frank Alleyn Edols. Alleyn's middle name is from his Grandfather Edward and his third name is from his father Lewis.
1929 - It seems most likely that by 1929 the family had moved to live closer to the city, in Artarmon and then in Shirley Road in Roseville.
1939 - Alleyn joined the Army in 1939 aged 17 and remained so until 1946 when he was aged 23[1]. This was through the duration of the second world war. He was in Darwin for two years including the time of the Darwin bombing in 1942. He worked in the area of signals. He was discharged from the army on 3 May 1946. At the time of discharge his posting was 17 Australian Lines of Communication Signals. He held the position of Lance Corporal on discharge. His service numbers were NX136093 and N270887. He enlisted in Paddington, New South Wales. [2]
1949 - Alleyn was residing at 35 Shirley Road, Roseville and occupation was as a soldier. [3]
1952 - He was engaged to Patricia Violet Edols in July 1952 and on the 11th September 1952 they were married.[4] Alleyn and Patricia no doubt knew each other as their families were related. At the time of his marriage his address was recorded as 34 Shirley Road, Roseville and he was working as an Insurance Clerk. His sisters Kathleen Martin and Adelaide Jane Martin were witnesses at his wedding. His brother John Bowler Martin was the best man and also witnessed the marriage certficate.
1954 - Alleyn was residing at 35 Shirley Road, Roseville and his occupation was as a soldier. [5]
1955 - Peter Alleyn Edward Martin was born.
1957 - Denise Susan Alice Martin was born.
1958 - Alleyn was residing at 18 Murray Street, Lane Cove and his occupation was as an Insurance Clerk. [6]
1959 - On 29th February, 1959 Alleyn died in an accident at the family home at 18 Murray Street, Lane Cove. He was electrocuted while inspecting underneath their home. He had a make shift light that he was using and combined with the damp ground it was a lethal combination. [7]
