You imported Ann Victoria (King) Owens (abt. 1842 - 1914) in 2014. Do you have any more information on this person? I'm working on her sisters family and was hoping to connect them. Thanks, KS
by accident I opened a very old G2G question for Herman Ludwig Viemann (1831-1908), and noted only later that it was already answered.
I have added a few new sources for him and other family members.
You are very lucky that there is a book about the family - I wished I would find something like that...
Here my thoughts:
- I would not bother at all about the different names of the wife, Steinberg or Lausberg. She probably was known as Frau Lausberg for a long time, she might answer Lausberg when asked for her former name.
- I have added Louis death registry record of 1908 - it states his birth place as Herzebrock and his parents as Hermann Viemann / Gertrud Pötter.
- I find the marriage record and death record as primary sources more reliable as the Goldschmiede-book, which is a secondary source (even if it seems well researched, mistakes happen).
- one topic that you have not considered is the confession:
Friedrich Wilhelm was protestant. Most of the familysearch records are taken from the protestant churchs books.
His 3rd wife was catholic. They married in the catholic church, and son Gerhard Henrich was baptized in the catholic church.
I have noticed in my own research that children of confessionally mixed records are baptised in different churches. (e.g. alternating catholic/protestant, or boys protestant, girls catholic etc.)
- So it is a possibility that Louis was born in Herzebrock, but baptized protestant. That would explain why the baptism record cannot be found in Matricula Herzebrock or Gütersloh.
The protestant records of Gütersloh in the familysearch catalogue are not public. The Gütersloh records come from the very old database Deutschland Geburten und Taufen, 1558-1898. Somehow, there is a 2nd version of the same records with place name Evangelisch, Hartum, Minden, Westfalen, Preußen, Deutschland? I have tried several searches without result - but the records are there somewhere. One of the many familysearch mysteries. Herzebrock protestant records also are not available.
- So 60 year old Friedrich Wilhelm Viemann has, after the death of his 2nd wife 1826, a relationship with the 26 year old Gertrud Pötter. 1831 son Louis was born out of wedlock, in his mothers home town. He is baptized. Maybe at his fathers request protestant - in Gütersloh/Herzebrock? When Gertrud is pregnant with their 2nd child, they marry. (catholic, and the 2nd son also is baptized catholic.) Gertrud for sure stays in Herzebrock at least until 1837 when her 2nd child dies. - Later she moves to Gütersloh, where she dies.
- So the author of the book researches the Viemann family. He finds a baptism record for Louis in Gütersloh/Herzebrock(?) that is not available to us. Lets assume fathers name given as Christian Wilhelm, which stands for Henrich Friedrich Wilhelm Christian Viemann. More details, like Louis birth place or mother, are not given - some church books entries are very short. As Henrich Friedrich Wilhelm Christian Viemann is not married at that time, and also is quite old, he draws the wrong conclusion that the father is son Christian Wilhelm Viemann, who just was married 4 month ago and has several more children born in Gütersloh. - An understandable error.
I see that you added the marriage date for Levi Fay (Fay-198) and his wife, Sarah Merrell. I can't find your source for this information. Can you please provide that? I approved the merge for daughter, Josephine. Thank you for your work!
Thank you for adding to the John Sutton family. I stay at the Day's Inn by the cemetery every year for my own family reunion and took several pics of the cemetery there. I can add the photos for the ones I have now without creating the profiles myself. Thanks again, Sharon
I have added siblings of Sophia Borland Wilson...so far, just the ones descended from John Wilson and Mary Brooks. I also added a little to the Mary Brooks bio.
There are seven children more descended from John Wilson and Lydia Dell in addition to Mary. I can't remember now why I added Mary Wilson last December. Lydia Dell is my 2xGG but not from John Wilson - rather from her first husband Mark Booth.
Lance has been a great help with verifying my ancestry through DNA and things that I am not able to do myself. He is a great asset to Wikitree and to anyone who needs his help!
We've put together a survey for you to fill out to check in with you, it will only take a moment as there are only a few questions. I hope you do not mind, but I have copied your note to the profile of Herman Viemann so that it is accessible if someone works on it.
