James was born about 1830 to Edward Martin and an unnamed mother.
He married Isabella Spence in St. Anne's Church, Belfast, in 1850 
James Martin worked as a labourer and died of dropsy in 1895.  as a widower, Isabella having predeceased him. He was buried in the City Cemetery, Belfast, Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland.
