Biography

Martha was born in New Jersey about 1744. She was the daughter of Hugh Martin and Jane Hunter. In 1762 Martha married Samuel Rogers and together they were parents of six sons and three daughters. They farmed in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. By 1790 they had moved with extended family members to Rockingham County, North Carolina where they farmed with slave labor. Martha probably passed away in Rockingham County, North Carolina sometime after 1810.

Notes

  • Learn of Martha from her presence in Wills: as underage daughter of Hugh Martin in 1761; as wife of Samuel Rogers in 1793; as sister of Governor Alexander Martin (who listed her children) in 1807.
  • No source found of date of death but Martha Rogers was last found listed as head of household in Rockingham County North Carolina in 1810.
