Biography
Elmer was a school principal. On September 6, 1918, however, when he registered for the draft, Elmer, with his wife, Mildred, was living in Alzada, Montana and working for "Singer Sewing Mfg Company" in Cheyenne Laramie, Wyoming. He lists his occupation as salesman with Singer at that time (also "farmer"). In 1920 the family was living in Greybull, Big Horn, Wyoming and Elmer still listed his occupation as salesman. In 1926, he moved his family to Honolulu as a representative of the Singer company. In 1930 he describes himself as an "agent" for Singer, and in the 1940 census, he has become a "manager". This is the "international corporation" that has been referred to elsewhere. Elmer (and Mildred) later ran a State Farm Insurance Agency in Honolulu and he was a prominent member of the Honolulu Masonic Lodge. (And she Worthy Matron of Eastern Star. Daughter Mavis was the first leader of Honolulu Rainbow, the Masons' organization for girls.
