Merrill (aka Keith) was born in Missouri in 1922. His parents were Don Martin and Bernice Livingston. In 1930, the family was living in Riverton, Fremont County, Iowa, on the family farm. They were still there in 1940.
He married Wanda Justine Brown around 1943. They had three children.
Keith was a Lt. Commander and pilot in the US Navy. He served in WWII and the Korean War. He was killed piloting a plane when he went to the aid of another plane during a training exercise off of Norfolk, Virginia. Merrill's grave is in Arlington Cemetery in Arlington County, Virginia, USA. His remains were never recovered from the US Navy plane crash which took his life, and three others.
