Residence of John Snow and Mary (Martin) Snow's family:
Mary (Martin) Snow no longer appears on the 1861 census and John is called a "widower," indicating she died between 1851 and 1861. John Snow Sr., no longer appears in 1871, indicating he died in the 1860s. Their oldest son, John Jr., had left Devonshire for the English Midlands; it is not known which of their other sons inherited their Devonshire farm and land. In the 1861 census, 38-year old Sarah Ann Snow, spinster, was keeping house for her widower father, now described as a "Grocer," indicating he no longer was farming his land. A granddaughter, Martha Bearden, age 23, was also living with them. [6]
