Born 22 August 1956 at St. Mary's Hospital, Long Beach, Los Angeles County, California, USA. Lived in Long Beach until 1962. Moved to Orcutt/Santa Maria area of Santa Barbara County, California, in the summer of 1962. Moved to Nipomo, San Luis Obispo County, California in February 1963. Lived there until leaving for college in 1974. Graduated from St. Patrick Elementary School, Arroyo Grande, in June 1970. Graduated from St. Joseph High School, Santa Maria, June 1974. Graduated from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, California, 8 June 1978 with a Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace Engineering.
Married Kathy Ann Nusbaum 17 June 1978 at St Joseph Church, Nipomo. Moved to Tehachapi, Kern County, California on 25 June 1978. Daughter, Jenny Marie Martin, born December 1979, Antelope Valley Hospital, Lancaster, Los Angeles County, California. Son, Joshua Daniel Russell Lee Martin, born February 1982, Antelope Valley Hospital.
Started full-time employment as a federal civil servant and an aerospace engineer with the United States Air Force Flight Test Center (AFFTC) on 26 June 1978. Attended California State University Fresno (CSUF) extension program in Engineering at Edwards AFB, California. Awarded Master's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical Option) by CSUF in December 1983.
Attended Stanford University, Stanford, California as a full-time graduate student from September 1985 through August 1986. Family lived in married family housing on campus for that year. Daughter, Jenny Marie graduated from Tehachapi High School in June 1998. In September 1998, she moved to Fresno as a full-time undergraduate student at CSUF. In May 2000, Jenny Marie married Andrew Sanders in Bakersfield, California. In June 2000, son, Joshua Daniel Russell Lee graduated from Tehachapi High School. In August 2000, Joshua moved to Daytona Beach, Florida to attend Embry Riddle Aeronautical University as a full-time undergraduate student. On September 10, 2001, I left my employment with the AFFTC and moved to another federal civil servant position with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Dryden Flight Research Center (DFRC), which has since been renamed the Armstrong Flight Research Center (AFRC).
