Biography

I was b. Gadsden AL 5/5/38 to Frank Jackson Martin of Gadsden AL and Clara Jackson of Albertville AL (hence my middle name Jackson). I attended the Gadsden public schools, Vanderbilt University in Nashville TN and the Harvard Law School in Cambridge MA. I served in the USArmy Artillery then in Army JAGC, married Leila Keeton in 1965, then on release from active duty practiced law with the Atlanta/Washington firm of Sutherland Asbill & Brennan until my retirement. Now Leila and I live in Magnolia Springs AL, her parents' retirement home, and in summer in Charleston WV near our daughter and her family.

Because of family research and records, I know my descent from Zachariah Martin b. about 1698 in King & Queen Co. VA, but have no proof of who his parents were. Because of a 67 marker YDNA match with other Martins, I believe that Zachariah was a son of Abram Martin, said to have been b. about 1642 in Galway, Ireland, but more likely b. at Park[e] Pale near Tolpuddle in Dorsetshire, England.

Frank,

Thank you for self-certifying for the Pre-1700 badge! Participation in a project is strongly encouraged for those wishing to edit Pre-1700 profiles.

It looks like the DNA Project or the United Kingdom Project would be a good fit with the tags you entered. You can also use the Following link to add the project tag to your profile, and you'll be kept up to date on any activity that occurs for that project.

Hi Frank,

Thank you for the note and question(s)!

Was the family / ancestor of this line the Martins of Athelhampton/Parke Pale, Dorset created and managed by you or other Wiki members?

If the profiles where created by other Wiki members you will want to send them a message asking to be added to the trusted list of the profile(s) with a explanation as to why you want to edit and or add info to the profiles. Please add sources to confirm your changes to any profiles.

If the profile is an open profile then please add a note under sources or as a comment as to why the changes are made and a source to confirm your changes to the profiles.

Hi!

You've probably been hard at work adding family members and getting connected to those that are already here. You should have at least a few profiles that you manage now. So, this week we're going to look at how to work with your Watchlist: How to Manage Your Watchlist.

Please let me know if you have any questions! I am happy to help!

Frank--

You've been here for three weeks now! We hope your profiles are starting to come together and that you've enjoyed getting to know all of us a little better. You're probably getting a good feel for the collaborative nature of WikiTree by now. We know that collaboration isn't always easy. So, we've put together a few pointers that can make working in this type of environment a little easier: How to be a Successful WikiTreer. As always, your questions are welcome!

Frank --

You are now a confirmed member, and you can get started adding your family members. As we've said, WikiTree is quite different from other genealogy sites. So, we've put together a guided tour to help you learn how to use it. Your first stop is How to Start Climbing Our Tree.

Tomorrow, you'll hear from a Mentor who will check in to see how you're doing and answer any questions you might have.

Next week, you'll get another message with your next stop on the guided tour.

You can also meet some of our members by joining in the fun with our Question of the Week in the G2G forum: Do you have a favorite photo of an ancestor?

Welcome!

Shirley
