Notes

Note N78[]
Hermoine never married and when asked why , her reply was "there's more married now than does well". She was more of a mother than some women who bore children, helping to raise all her nieces and nephews. She stayed at home helping her mother care for her father until his death, then caring for her mother as long as she could before suffering a heart attack herself.
Hermoine was a devoted member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church (later to merge with the Methodists to become the United Methodist Church) located on Madison St. in Clarksville. She worked diligently with the children in church, particularly Bible School and special children's programs. She also was a big influence in her nieces and nephews religious experience. After Mattie's death , Hermoine lived with sister Ramona, never completely happy at leaving her home of so many years. She died quietly in her sleep at Ramona's home at 616 Martin St. in Clarksville and is buried by her parents in Greenwood Cemetery.
