Barthelemy Godin dit Belle Fontaine is on the Wall of Names at the Acadian Memorial in St. Martinville, Louisiana Plaque 3 Right. Listed with him is his wife Marie Martin. [1]
Marie Claire Josephe Martin was born in 1734 in Port Royal Nova Scotia. She is the daughter of Jean-Baptiste Martin and Marie Brun.

She was age 32 on the census of 9 April 1766 taken at Cabanocey, Louisiana; however, according to Bona Arsenault, she had a sister named "Marie Josephe", born about the same time, who apparently didn't marry or have children. Date is an estimate.[3]
Around 1755, the British began expelling the Acadians. Some were imprisoned at Halifax and were released from there after the treaty of 1764 was signed.
About 1760, Marie Claire married Barthelemy Godin dit Belle Fontaine in Acadia. [4]

How the couple travelled to Louisiana hasn't been researched but we find the couple living in Cabanocey, Louisiana on 8 April 1766 with 5 arpents of land.[5]Marie and Barthelemy are on the 14 September 1769 Census of Lower "Cabahannocer" on the left bank of the Mississippi River. They have two sons, Louis and Barthelemy.[6]
After Barthelemy died and on 24 Aug 1772, Marie married Joseph Richard, son of Joseph & Maria Coumos. Her parents are named in the marriage record: "Jean Baptiste [Martin] & Marie BRUNE".[7][8]
Children:
Jean Pierre Marie Richard 1773–1842

On 1 January 1777, the Census of the area now called St. James, enumerated Marie Martin and Joseph Richard and their combined families plus two additional children born to their marriage.[9]
