Biography

Edmund was born in Stokes County, North Carolina in 1804. He was the son of James Martin and Martha Loftin. In 1823 Edmund received an A.B. degree from the University of North Carolina. He was a prosperous farmer who farmed with slave labor. In 1835 Edmund married Harty Davis Williams and they were together parents of nine children. In 1850 Edmund was appointed postmaster of Martins Lime Kiln, North Carolina. After Harty’s death, in 1854 Edmund second married Isabella S. Wiley and together they were parents of a son. Edmund passed away in Stokes County, North Carolina in 1861 at age 57.
