I first became interested in genealogy in the early 1980’s shortly after my father’s death. I took a few genealogy courses through my local community college, acquired some documents and hand written ancestry papers my grand aunt and other relatives had kept. I purchased some genealogy software from a company called Parsons Technology, back then software was in the form of what was called a floppy disc, and that was the beginning of my interest.

My local library had a genealogy section and since my work place was so close to the library I often went there during my lunch hour and sometimes after work to find as much genealogical information as possible. I also met with several relatives who had been involved with genealogy and shared information we had collected. I purchased a book that was referenced in my grand aunts genealogical notes called “A history and genealogy of the Comstock family in America”. It contained Comstock family history going back to the late 1500’s. My paternal great grandmother who was a Comstock was a direct descendent of William Goodman Comstock and his wife Elizabeth Daniel of England.

I interviewed several older relatives and acquired as much information as possible. I drafted my mother to take me to different locations around the Midwest to grand aunts and uncles residences and properties. I also visited more than two dozen regional cemeteries documenting and photographing hundreds of headstones.
