Jane was born in 1829 in Acock's Green, Worcestershire, England. She is the daughter of John Martin and Charity Parkhouse. [1]
Jane Martin was baptized on 12 April 1829. Her father was a labourer and they were living in Yardley. Marston.[2] [1]
1841 - Jane is 12 years old, she is living in Flint Green, [1] Yardley, Worcestershire, England. Jane is living at home with her parents and her younger siblings, William Martin (age 9), Henry Martin (age 7), Robert Martin (age 4), John Martin (age 2) and there is a 1 year old toddler named George Corbett. 1851 - Jane, age 22, is living in Warwick St, Solihull, Yardley, Worcestershire, England with her father John Martin (age 53) and many of her siblings, William Martin (age 19), John Martin (age 11), Anne Martin (age 9). Her mother was often away nursing people. Jane is employed as a Laundress. [4]
1859 Jane married James Payton In the Parish of Yardley, Church of England, St Edburgha. [5]
Jane is missing from the 1861 Census as is husband James if anyone finds out where they were please add it here. I can find no record of them in or leaving the UK."
1871 - Jane and James are living at 42 Warwick Rd, Yardley, just down the street from James parents and his brother Thomas Nathaniel Payton and his family. They have no children but have taken in boarders. [6]
1881 - Jane and husband James are still living at Warwick Rd, Yardley, Jane has started her own laundry business and they have 2 girls living with them, working as her assistants. Mary Beckworth Carter Sykes (18), Salley Parker (14). They also have Sarah Ann Francombe (9) recorded as Child of sister and orphen. [7]
1891 - Jane and her husband James have moved to a cottage in Shirley Rd, they are both in their early 60's and James was noted to be an invalid, but later recovered. They still have 2 girls with them, one a servant and Jane's namesake, Jane Martin (neice, age 24). [8]
Jane Payton (nee Martin) passed away in early 1900.[9] They may have taken her to the Workhouse Infirmary, which was a closest thing to a hospital in those days, because she is recorded as dying at Solihull, Warwickshire. In truth it was to become Solihull Hospital only a few years later. [10]
