Biography

Jane was born in 1829. She was the daughter of John[1]and Charity Martin.[2]In Acock's Green, Worcestershire, England

Baptism

Jane Martin was baptized on 12 April 1829. Her father was a labourer and they were living in Yardley. Marston.[3]

In 1841 she was age 12 living in Flint Green Yardley, with her Parents and Siblings, her father (age 40) was an Agricultural Labourer her mother Charity (age 35) was at home, but she was the oldest child and likely helping to care for her younger siblings all boys, Will (age 9), Henry (age 7), Robert (age 4) and John (age 2). They also have an extra child not their own in the household, George Corbett (age 1). [4]

In 1851 she was age 22 and is living with her father, her mother is not present. Her brother William (age 19) was present John (age 11), a new sister Anne (age 9), They are living in the Payton's street, Warwick Rd, Yardley, Worcestershire, England.[5]

Marriage

In 1859 she married James Payton In the Parish of Yardley, Church of England, St Edburgha. [1]

Jane is missing from the 1861 Census as is husband James if anyone finds out where they were please add it here. I can find no record of them in or leaving the UK."

In 1871 she and James were living at 42 Warwick Rd, Yardley, just down the street from James parents and his brother Thomas Nathaniel Payton and his family. They have no children but have taken in boarders. [6]

In 1881, she and James were still living at Warwick Rd, Yardley, Jane has started her own laundry business and they have 2 girls living with them, working as her assistants.[7]

In 1891 Jane and her husband James have moved to a cottage in Shirley Rd, they are both in their early 60's and James was noted to be an invalid, but later recovered. They still have 2 girls with them, one a servant and Jane's namesake, Jane Martin (neice, age 24). [8]

Death

Jane Payton (nee Martin) passed away in early 1900.[9]They may have taken her to the Workhouse Infirmary, which was a closest thing to a hospital in those days, because she is recorded as dying at Solihull, Warwickshire. In truth it was to become Solihull Hospital only a few years later. [10]
