Biography
Matilda was born to George and Martha Young Martin in Missouri and spent the better part of her years there. She married her first husband, William Payne circa 1889 in Missouri. They had one child: Georgia Elizabeth Payne (1889 - 1938). On October 14, 1891 she joined with John Henry Coatney in holy matrimony in Christian County, Missouri. Together they had seven children: Charles Edward Courtney (1901-1964), . Mattie separated from Charles sometime after 1920 but before 1929. On the 1930 Census she is remarried to Carl Hawkins. There are no known children from this union. Mattie passed away on June 5, 1933 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was laid to rest in Rose Hill Memorial Park in Tulsa.
