Agnes Martin was born in 1879 at Ballynashee, Rashee, County Antrim, Ireland. She was the daughter of Moses Martin and Agnes McMeekin.[1]

In the 1901 census, Agnes was age 20 living at Ballinashee, County Antrim with her father Moses Martin (66), mother Agnes Martin (50), brothers Daniel Martin (23), John Martin (6), sister Jane Martin (13).[2]

Agnes emigrated to the United States in 1901. She sailed on the Oceanic from Liverpool and arrived in New York on 10 Oct 1901. She gave her final destination as her sister Mrs E McCauley in Minnesota.[3]

John Cruikshank married Agnes Martin on 22 Nov 1901 at Amo, Cottonwood, Minnesota, United States.[4] John and Agnes returned to Carnstroan, Racavan, County Antrim, Ireland shortly after they married and raised their family there.

In the 1911 census, Agnes was age 30 living at Carnstroan, County Antrim with her husband John Cruikshank (35), sons Daniel Cruikshank (7), John Cruikshank (5), James Cruikshank (3), Hugh Cruikshank (1). They had been married 9 years and had 4 children all 4 still living.[5]
