Jonathan was born in 1820. He was the son of Thomas Martindale and Mary Warner. He lived in Wrightstown, Pennsylvania all his life and was the school's director for many years there.
He married Mary Addis in 1851. Together, they had ten children in twenty years.
Jonathan died in 1888.
