As a young girl, Pita attended Presbyterian schools, graduating from Menaul High School in 1939. She then attended business college in Santa Fe, becoming a secretary and receiving an appointment for a government job in Washington, D.C., working there during the early years of WWII. Pita married Ulysses in 1943, after the end of the war they raised their five children in Albuquerque. Enjoying almost 40 years of retirement, Pita was able to travel, attend many family and school reunions, and participate in church activities.
