Biography

James was born in 1833. He was baptized on August 4, 1833, in St. Stephen in Brannel. He is the son of Richard Martyn and Mary Goodge. He married Ann Crowle on November 14, 1857, in St. Stephen-in-Brannel. He was from Trelyon Downs, she was from Scarcewater. His occupation was given as Miner.

In 1861, James, Ann and son Richard were living in Scarcewater in the parish of Ladock. His occupation was given as Tin Miner.

In 1871, James, Ann and children Robert, Edward, Sampson, Fred and William were living on Tolbenny Street in the parish of St. Stephen. His occupation was given as Miner.

By 1881, the family had moved and James had changed occupations from a Tin Miner to a Granite Quarry labourer. James, Ann and family were living at Chytane Downs in the parish of St. Enoder.

By 1891, the family had moved again and James was a Widower. He was now a Captain of Clay Work and was living at Sunrising, Meledor Downs, in Gwindra Court Mill Trenionth Churchtown, in the parish of St. Stephen-in-Brannel. The children living with him were William, Annie, Charles and Arthur.

James died at the age of 80 in 1914 in the Parish of St. Stephen-in-Brannel and was buried on April 8, 1914.
