Elsie Mae Hart passed away at home in Wasco on November 4, 2012. Elsie was born October, 20, 1923 in Bakersfield, CA to Peter and Abigail Mashburn. Elsie was raised in Wasco, attending local schools and later working as a caregiver at the local convalescent hospital. She married William Thomas Hart on August 7, 1952 in Shafter, CA. Elsie is remembered by her loved ones for her innate ability to care for them when they fell ill; Elsie had a healing touch, both by hand and heart. She took great care of her daughter, Edna, as she was often ill as a child. Elsie was also a wonderful cook. She prepared dishes like chicken & dumplings, fried chicken, and banana pudding for Sunday dinners with her family. Elsie enjoyed quilting and embroidery as well as traveling. She enjoyed visiting the coast and her favorite trip was when she visited Georgia and stopped in Nevada, New Mexico, and Tennessee along the way. Whenever her son, Gordon would come to Wasco to visit with her, she would ask him to bring her a Big Mac, fries and a coke, which Gordon always made sure to bring. She enjoyed his dog, Lucky as well. Elsie was always fond of looking up towards the sky to get lost in the clouds. Heaven has finally called Elsie home; she will be dearly missed and remembered. Elsie is preceeded in death by her husband, William Thomas Hart; parents, Peter and Abigail Mashburn; brothers, Bill and Jim Mashburn; and sisters, Dollie Bishoff, Opal Clement, and Virginia Bell. She is survived by her sons, Gordon J. Bell and Dewayne “Porky” Bell; daughters, Edna Leona Nelson, Joe Ann Lawrence; foster daughters, Marie Guimond and Lynn Carlisle; brothers, Ellis and Everett Mashburn; sisters, Myrtle Reid and Mattie Schmidt; 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and a host of other family members.
