On 12th May 1941, aged 31 years, at Victoria Barracks, Paddington, New South Wales, Stanley enlisted in the Australian Army (Militia) for service in Australia during the ominously-building Second World War. His mother was listed as next-of-kin. He was posted to the 16th Garrison Battalion. He discharged on 28th October that year. ^[2] The following day, 29th October, he enlisted in (technically transferred to) the full-time Second Australian Imperial Force (Australia's overseas military expeditionary force) with his father listed as next-of-kin. Posted to Ship's Staff, he was discharged on 20th April 1942. ^[3]

Stanley married divorcee, Evelyn Senior nee Grant in 1944 at Randwick, New South Wales. ^[4]

He passed away in 1979 in New South Wales. ^[5]
