John Mason was born in about 1836 in Salford, Lancashire, England, [1] the son of James Mason, a millwright. [2]
He married Ellen Renshaw on 7 November 1853 in Manchester Cathedral, Manchester, Lancashire. [2] The couple had at least 2 children.
In 1857 they had a son James in Bolton.
By 1861 the Mason family had moved to Warrington Lancashire and were living on Winwick Road. John was a millwright and Ellen a laundress. They had taken in a lodger. [3]
In 1891 John was living with his wife at their son's house in Winwick Street, Warrington, Lancashire. He was a fitter. [4]
