Eleanor Frances Mason Smestad Married Lincoln A. Smestad Lincoln is the son of a Norwegian, and he still corresponds with some cousins in Norway. He’s a great pal, friend, husband and father. I’m very lucky to have him. He retired from the post office at 57 (note: 1973) and then went to work in the purchasing department of the hospital, retired from there at 65 (Note: 1981). He served in the U. S. Army from 1942 to 46 in the South Pacific. We always felt we were surely on the same wave length as letters to and from each other carried identical thoughts. It was very comforting at those lonesome times. He’s been a past commander of the V. F. W. and a past Fire Chief of our volunteer department. He still is active in a reserved kind of way. Can’t fight fires anymore as insurance doesn’t cover men over a certain age. At present, he is a “gopher” for our son, Ken, in his auto body shop-three times a week or so it’s good to keep him busy. He loves to read. He Has an antique 1949 Ford in the garage. (E.M.S.)
Now, as for me-I was a housewife and a mother, den mother, etc. For 12 years after Ken was born. Then I went to work part-time at Montgomery Ward. After seven years I got a job with the County library running a printing machine. Retired from there at 60 after 15 years. (Note: 1979) I don’t like housework, never have, it’s only do what is necessary. I do, however, love creating and do plenty of crafts. Thank goodness, I have a husband that goes along with my hobby. I’m active in our Fire Company Auxiliary and we both are charter members of the company. I love making any giving things to people. It gives me great pleasure. I’m a member of a metaphysical group called “bridge builders.” (E.M.S.)
