Notes

Au recensement 1681 cité ayant 3 ans, chez ses parents *** Note *** the boy who is listed as Jean, 3, on 1681 census was Denis, whose baptism places him clearly in 1678 for birth. Joseph has to be the child listed as Étienne, 1 year old. There is no other trace of the name Étienne in the family. Jetté assigned the name Jean to Joseph, and added a son Étienne. Sulte ascribes the name Jean, 3, to Denis, and Étienne to Joseph. Jetté appears to have erred in this instance.

The following date and place of death was entered for Étienne Joseph Masse, the date is that of Joseph Masse, the location is totally unsupported by anything.

3 MAY 1748
West Springfield, Hampden, Massachusetts, United States
66-67

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Joseph by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Joseph:

Masse-109 and Masse-98 appear to represent the same person because: same man, Jetté forgot his brother Denis when he looked at 1681 census, Denis was 3 then. Joseph got entered as Étienne, aged 1.
