The family surname is spelt in various ways depending on sources, eg Massye, Mascy, Massey, Massy, Massie. Reference can be made to Benault's Visitation of Lancashire 1533 (Mascy), and Dugdale Visitation of Lancashire 1664, although Dugdale gives Richard Massey and Anne Tildesley (also spelt Tyldesley) as Mary Massey's grandparents.
