Biography

Elamander F. Massie, son of Jeptha Massie and Sarah McDaniel, appears with his parents in the 1870 and 1880 census.^[1][2] He was named for his uncle Elemander McDaniel (1843-1920).

On August 1883, Jeptha Massie applied for a Gallia County marriage license for Alemander F. Massie and Maggie Newlin, and a license was issued by probate judge S. D. Cowden, writing "Alemander". The couple was married the following day, and Judge Cowden then wrote "Alexander".^[3] On the 1900, 1910, and 1920 census, Elamander's name was written, respectively, as Alamander, Elemander, and Alamander.^[4][5][6] Elamander farmed for many years in Symmes Township of Lawrence County, Ohio. He and his wife raised three children, a fourth child having died in childhood. He died at the age of 65 years, 10 months, and 5 days and was laid to rest in Flag Springs Cemetery.
