Charles was born in 1748, the son of Pierre Masson and Marie Françoise Brouillet Laviolette, and baptised at Terrebonne on 19 September.
He first married Marie Archange Dagenais at Montréal on 18 October 1773.
His second marriage was to Marie Catherine Hotte at St-Eustache on 7 January 1799.
Charles died on 11 March 1814 and was buried two days later.
