Biography

Catherine, daughter of Pierre Masson and Jeanne Valleau, was baptized on July 1, 1613, in Ars-en-Ré, Aunis, France. Catherine's godfather was Louis Formis and her godmother was Catherine Valleau. ^[1]

Catherine was the youngest of 5 children. Catherine's siblings were Antoine (~1614-1641)^[2], twins Jean (1615^[3]-1645^[4]) and, Jeanne (1615^[3]) and Marthe (~1618-1646). Catherine's father Pierre died centenarian in 1654 and her mother Jeanne Valleau died about 80 years old in 1646.

Catherine Masson died at 57 years of age, funeral on 10 May 1669 in La Chapelle-du-Bois (now Le Bois-Plage-en-Ré).^[6]

Research Notes

• André Mignier, baptised 1651, who is listed with these parents on his marriage record and came to New France as a soldier in Carignan-Salières regiment in 1665. He married in 1668, and is recorded as 41 years old in 1681 census of New France. Although it is certain who is parents are, given the age desrepancies, (miliary at 14, married at 17) it is not clear which son André is. It is probable that Pierre b. 1639 and André (b/ 1651) have been confused. A query has been sent to Fichier Origine on this subject.
