Notes

Note DI537Event Description: Senile Decay.

Note NI537ELIZABETH: She was baptised in Frome, Somerset County England on the 25th Dec 1830. She was 11 years old when she arrived in the colony with her family. At 19 years of age she married 38yr old farmer Samuel Procter at St Mary Magdalene Church, South C reekSouth Creek now known as ST Mary's on the 17th July 1849, Witnesses were Thomas & Elizabeth Paskin of Sth Creek. Thomas was a Saddler & Harness Maker. Samuel Procter was born 10th Dec 1809 at Hitcham, Suffolk County, England, he was married supposedly with a young son when he was tried & convicted at the age of 24yrs for housebreaking, transported to Australia for life aboard the ship "RE COVERY" in 1835., On arrival he was assigned to George Cox Esq of the Penrith District He obtained his ticket of leave in 1844 and a Conditional Pardon was granted in 1849. Sometime during Samuel's assignment to George Cox he was sent to George's Property at Mudgee., a property titled "Burrundulla", this is the sole reason for the families continued existance in this area Samuel died at "Redbank' Mudgee, NSW on the 22nd, August 1885 of old age. Elizabeth died on the 31st July 1904 aged 74years of Senile Decay at "Redbank" Mudgee, NSW. She is buried in the Church of England Cemetery, Mudgee. I have wondered if "REDBANK" referred to the name of the property that Samuel and Elizabeth resided on, but it is not, Redbank is an area near Mudgee, NSW. 1 1

As a teenager Elizabeth left home with her brother William. I don't know if this was for work or to get away from her stepmother "The Lady from HELL". 1

Consent for Elizabeth to marry Samuel was provided by either her brother William or guardian, William Thomas Clarke, Dr Clark is said to have become the Guardian for the MASTERS children, as yet I have not pursued this, but I will when I can. At this time she was still living somewhere in the Penrith District, if that is correct then maybe they were staying with the Dr.. 1

The question arises, was Elizabeth the child bashed by the Stepmother as stated in the police report to the Governor? Did she receive no support from her father at this time or was this the same time that her father had been bashed with a Flat Iron? Was the bashing of Elizabeth enough to make her and the other children shun their father ?. I would say yes it would be. 1

If the answer to any or all of these questions is YES then why weren't the police involved? It's not as though they didn't know all about MARY JOHNSON.

(Medical):I would suppose this would be Dementia in today's medical jargon. She had been treated for it for 3 months prior to her death. She died at" Redbank" Mudgee,NSW Her medical attendant was Harvey Nichol a doctor I presume. 1

Informant for her death cert particulars was her son James Thomas Proctor. Amelia June Proctor is named as an additional witness.
