Biography

Minnie was born in 1864. Minnie Matheny ... She passed away in 1886.

Sam worked in timber while living in Utah and continued the same line of work when he went to Beaver Canyon with his mother. While visiting his sister Lib in Blackfoot, Idaho he met and married Minnie Matheny, his sister's step-daughter. They both went with Mr. and Mrs. Matheny to Cayacus, California about 200 miles south of San Francisco, on the ocean front.

It was there that his two children were born, Minnie Collier and Jasper (Jsp) Lee. When Sam's in-laws moved to San Francisco he, his wife and two small children moved back to Beaver Canyon. The happiness that comes with married life was short for Sam. His dear wife Minnie died, leaving him with two small children. Grandma was close, also other relatives, but Sam a home loving type was very lonely.

Her's and Cora's grave would have gone unnoticed except for Peggy Shuping. She tells this story of finding the grave:

It took me quite awhile to find who all were buried in this cemetery, there were no records at the county courthouse. Since the town had quite a few residents, I'm sure there are many more that I haven't located yet. I believe that Mamie and Cora have a broken headstone, my husband and I spent quite awhile looking for the top of it, but had no luck. We stopped there one day and the cemetery had garbage blowing all around, so we went home, got garbage bags and cleaned it, we also called the forest service and had the garbage barrel removed, people would just throw garbage there and it would blow into the cemetery. Not a big deal, but it got me interested in who was there. Where the broken headstone is located, in the spring, we could see the outline of what appeared to be a larger plot with a smaller one right beside it. We could be wrong, but we always talked to Mamie and Cora at that spot. We have since moved to Michigan, and can only hope that others are making sure it is kept clean. I am happy that they have family to care for them now. Take care, Peggy
