Matheny, Charles G. 4 Oct 1861 1st Sergeant 25 years old Co. G, 11th Cavalry on 20 Dec 1861. Reenlisted as veteran. Mustered out 14 July 1865. 5’10" tall; black hair; black eyes; carpenter; born Illinois.
Charles was for awhile Constable in Lewistown; then a Justice of the Peace. He and Emma ran the Hotel Waggoner.
Obit, Fulton Democrat, Feb 21, 1900,
"C.G. Matheny died at his home in Lewistown 16 Feb 1900. He was born in Astoria 12 Dec 1836. In Sept. 1861 he enlisted in Co. G., 11 IL Cav., serving as first sergeant until his discharge, 14 July 1865. He was married to Miss Emma Gustine 26 Feb. 1870. To them were born two children: Mrs. R. L. Harben and Fred Matheny now in El Paso Texas. The funeral services were held at the home Sunday afternoon under the auspices of the Odd Fellows and G.A.R. Rev Messrs. Seaman and J.B. Mayfield conducted funeral services. Mr. Matheny was a good soldier. He was generous and kind and leaves many friends to mourn with his desolate and sorrowing wife and children."
Charles and Emma are buried at Oak Hill in Lewistown.
