Richard was born before 1788. Richard Mather ... He passed away in 1823. [1]
Richard Mather was born in England, came to America and was engaged in the mercantile business in Philadelphia for several years, then was in New York City for a few years before coming to Kentucky about the year 1802. He settled on his land in Hardin County at that time, which was a tract of 15,000 acres near the little settlement of "Tanner" in present day LaRue County. Mather apparently was one of the largest landholders of his time. From part of the land he owned was carved out the Thomas Lincoln Farm on which Abraham Lincoln was born in February, 1809.
Richard Mather died April 17, 1823 and was buried in the family burial ground near his home. His wife, Mary, died May 7, 1848; she was buried by his side. Their children were: Mariah, born September 18, 1804; Henry, born 1807; Cary, born 1812; Ann Gabriella, born March 6, 1815; James C. and Edward.
