Jackson would enlist in the CSA in 1861, joining the 38th Virginia Infantry, Company K. Jackson took part in the charge of Malvern Hill near Richmond on July 1, 1862, and was killed in the battle.
Madison Matherly was also in the 38th Virginia Infantry, Company K.
