"of Fernaig" Fernaig is an estate along the south shore of Loch Carron; downhill from Achmore.
Roderick was a Matheson Clan Chief, who inherited his families resentment against the MacDonnells of Glengarry and in 1602 entered into a bond with Kenneth MacKenzie of Kintail.
Roderick took a leading role in feuds between the Mackenzies and Macdonalds and distinguished himself in the final siege of Strome Castle from the Grandson of the man who contributed to the downfall and death of his grandfather, Dugald Roy Matheson.
