Biography

John was born about 1817, likely at Abercrombie Point. He was the son of Alexander Matheson and Margaret Cameron.

In 1854, John's father Alexander sold some of his land to John and his brother Donald.^[1]

John married Christena MacPherson.^[2] They had:^[3]

1. Hugh Alexander,^[3][4] b. abt. 1856
2. Margaret,^[3][4] b. abt. 1859
3. Donald A.,^[3][5] b. abt. 1861

His family were enumerated together in 1871 (age mistakenly as "34")^[3] and 1881 (age as "61") next to the heirs of his brother Donald.^[4] John and Christy were enumerated with their son Donald in 1891.^[5]

John died in 1898 and is buried at Abercrombie cemetery.^[2]
