William Matheson was born in February 1869 in Oxford, Ontario, his father, Angus, Matheson and his mother, Elizabeth Sutherland. He married Ann Jane Thompson on December 6, 1894, in Waterloo, Ontario. They had at least three children during their marriage. He died in 1953 in Manitoba at the age of 84.
