Unknown Origins
There is currently no known documentation establishing the maiden name of Zachariah Moorman's wife Mary. She is frequently seen as Mary Matthews based upon a Cane Creek Monthly Meeting entry from 1774 (7th of the fifth month), "Mary Moreman, formerly Matthews, married out of unity." Unfortunately the entry does not contain the name of the husband, it is possible she married a different Moorman, she could have been a widow Matthews, and most importantly Zachariah and his wife Mary are known to be married as early as April 1770 based upon their joint signature of a deed in Anson County for the sale of 300 acres to Archilus Moorman. Additionally, two of Zachariah's children, Edward ad Mary, are documented as born before the date Mary Matthews was reported to have married out of unity.
