William Leslie Dorset's father, William Dorset, had attained high position through family connections, ... and he may have had doubts about the forthcoming marriage of his eldest son. However, it was a propitious day for the family when the "dashing" William Leslie Dorset married Wellington barmaid, Mary Emily Mathews for her practical frugal nature, coupled with commercial ability and strength of character, was a foil to his polished but feckless ways.
