Biography

Berrilla Catharine "Bessie" Mathews was born on March 9, 1847, in Oldham, Kentucky.^[1] She was the daughter of Mary Yeager and Benjamin Mathews. She was named after her Maternal Grandmother Berrilla C (Swindell) Yager. She was their first child. She had 5 sisters and 2 brothers She was age 3, in their home in Collin County, Texas in 1850. ^[2] She was also in their home in 1860 at age 13, along with her sisters, Orona E-10; Adelina A--6; Madora A-4; and Mary F -1;^[3]

She married Richard Calhoun Clark on February 13, 1868, when she was 20 years old.^[4]in Collin, Texas. They had eight children.

They were farmers. In 1880 they were living in Collin County where Clark was Farmer; Catherine was keeping house; and their children in the home were, Mary E 11, Benjamin L -9, ; Pearl -7, and William M -2. ^[8] In 1900 they were living in Luncuster, Dallas County, Texas, with Richard, Luna and Earl in the household.^[9]

Berilla died January 26, 1910, at the age of 62, in Plano, Collin Co., Texas and was buried in the Bethany Cemetery.^[1]
