Biography

Frank Jr. was born on February 24, 1893. He was the son of Frank Mathews and Georganna Pyle.^[1][2] In the 1910 Census he is living with his parents and grandmother.^[3]

On May 10, 1916, Frank obtained a passport so that he could work as a chemist in the Canadian explosives industry.^[4]

On February 15, 1917, Frank married Anne White.^[5][2]

At age 24, Frank asked for an exemption from World War I service because he was employed at manufacturing munitions in Nobel, Ontario, Canada. ^[6]

The 1920 Census records the family's move to northwest Indiana^[7] where their infant son Frank was born. From this time until retirement, he was a chemist at the DuPont plant in East Chicago, Indiana.^[8]

The 1930 Census lists his family.^[9]

By the 1940 Census, Frank and Anne had another three children, bringing the total number of children to eleven.^[10] One of their children is still living.

At age 49, Frank received a draft notice for World War II service.^[11]

He passed away on May 22, 1958.^[12]

Research Notes

Son Frank was not Junior. Frank's name was Frank Thomas Mathews.

The 1940 Census misspells the surname for many of the children.
