Martha was born about 1790. She is the daughter of John Mathews and Nancy Quarles.

She married George Speake on 8 Nov 1809 in Mecklenburg County, Virginia. In the 1850 and 1860 Census', she is living with her eldest son, Edwin M. Speaks in Brunswick County, Virginia.
