Biography

Jason was born February 5, 1795 in Roane County, Tennessee. He was the son of Jason Matlock and Fannie Rayburn.

Pastor of Ocoee Baptist Church for fifty years. Married to Elizabeth "Betsey" Hicks on September 30,1815 in Roane County, Tennessee. [1]

He passed away March 1880 in Benton, Polk County, Tennessee.[2] Jason was laid to rest in Matlock Cemetery, Polk County, Tennessee, United States. [3]

Matlock Cemetery near Estanalee Creek in Southwest Mcminn County, Tennessee, near Niota and three miles east of Riceville is on the old Matlock homesite and was formerly Cherokee Indian ground. Home was purchased in 1818 from Betsy McIntosh, a half breed Cherokee indian wife of the great Cherokee chief "Falling Water". Both are still buried here on this said property...located on county rd 725.
