Biography

Walter was born on 15 November 1866 in Childersburg, Talladega, Alabama, USA. He was the son of Andrew Jackson Matson and Frances Eveline Fannie Matson.^[1]

In the 1870 census Walter (age 3) was living in Talladega, Alabama, USA.^[2]

In the 1880 census Walter (age 13) was living in Sylacauga, Talladega, Alabama, USA.^[3]

When Walter was about 22 he married Florence Smith in 1889. The couple had 4 children: Charles E. Matson, Bessie Matson, Paul Matson and Walter Preston Morgan Matson.^[4]

In the 1900 census Walter (age 33) was living in Childersburg, Talladega, Alabama, USA.^[5]

When Florence died in 1903, Walter put the children in an orphanage. Three were later adopted.
