Biography

Charles Robert Mathews was born August 1, 1892 at Gladion, Michigan to Robert Mathews (England) and Mary Jane Muma (Ontario). He died June 5, 1919 at the age of 26 at Nester Township in Roscommon County, Michigan. He was married at the time of his death to Maudie Mathews. Informant was Richard Mathews of Gladion.[1] He was buried at Highland Cemetery in Gladwin, Michigan.

At time of WWI Draft Registration, Charley Mathews was 23 years old and living at Gladwin, Michigan. He was farming at Nester Township and was married with a child. Birth was cited as August 1, 1893.[2]

Death record gives name as Charles Robert but FAG and obituaries give name as Robert Charles.

Robert Charles Matthews of Nester township died June 5 after several weeks' illness with typhoid fever. He was a son of Richard Matthews and was born in Gladwin August 1, 1892. Burial in Highland cemetery. He is survived by his wife. Gladwin County Record dated 06-12/1919 Column - 4 Page - 4
ROBERT CHARLES MATTHEWS
Robert Charles Matthews died June 5, at his home in Nester township, after several weeks' illness of typhoid fever.
Mr. Matthews was the son of Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Matthews of Hamilton township, Clare county. He was born in Grout township, August 1, 1892, and was aged 26 years, 10 months and 3 days at his death.
He leaves to mourn his loss a wife and two small children; his parents, five brothers, and two sisters, besides a host of friends and other relatives.
The funeral was held at the Butman schoolhouse, conducted by Elder Pendleton of Beaverton, assisted by Elder George Bailey of Hamilton. Burial in Highland cemetery at Gladwin. Gladwin County Record dated 6-19/1919
