Aaron Matthews was born in North Carolina about 1790. He married Midda Johnson, daughter of Jacob and Margaret Garrett Johnson in 1817 in Surry Co., North Carolina. Sometime after 1828, the family relocated to Lawrence Co., Mississippi. Aaron died in Mississippi about 1836, leaving a widow and large family. His burial place is unknown.

Middia Matthews arrived in Johnson County, Arkansas sometime before January 1837, with her nine children and elderly parents. Her younger brother, Jacob [Jr.] arrived in Johnson County about the same time but it is uncertain whether he was part of the family migration or came by a northern route, possibly by way of Newton County, Missouri where his elder brother, Eli T. Johnson was established.

Middia Matthews and Jacob Johnson (Jr.) are listed among the tax payers of Johnson County in 1837. Shortly before her marriage to Carey Evans (or Evants,) Middia signed a deed of gift before Joseph Adkins, Justice of the Peace of Perry Township, Johnson County, in May 1838. All nine of her children are listed. Soon afterward, the new couple and the six younger Matthews children moved to Newton County, Missouri. In April of 1840, another deed of gift was executed in Newton County, Missouri, giving details of the property to be given to each of the six minor children. Court records show that Middia was deceased by the following February when her brother Eli T. Johnson was named guardian of the minor children of Aaron and Middia Matthews. It is probable that Middia is buried in what is now known as Miller Cemetery, along with her brother and several members of his family, but no marker was found for her grave.

In May of 2001, a memorial stone was installed by descendants in the Minnow Creek Cemetery in Johnson County, Arkansas. Aaron Matthews never came to Johnson County and Middia stayed only for a short time. However, their descendants feel that it is fitting for a marker to be placed near that of Middia's parents, Jacob and Margaret Johnson and in the same cemetery where so many of their descendants are also buried.

Four of the Matthews children, Daniel, Winnie, Leudiann, Mary Jane are buried at Minnow Creek. Margaret, Lewis and Lemuel died in Johnson County but their burial places are unknown. A memorial marker for these three was placed beside that of their parents in May 2001.

Aaron and Middia's daughter, Elizabeth Stewart, moved to Texas with her family. She died 11 Oct 1906, and is buried in Gabriel Mills, Williamson County, Texas. Enoch Alexander, youngest son of Aaron and Middia, is buried in Owens Cemetery, Pope County.

Aarom was born in 1790. He passed away in 1836.
