Phillip, born about 1820 in South Wales, emigrated to Upper Canada (Ontario) with his parents, Philip Matthews and Mary Abraham (Abram), in 1821. They settled in London Township in Colonel Talbot's settlement.[1]
In the Census of Canada, 1861, Phillip and his family are recorded living on a farm next to his parents' farm in London Township.[2]
He died in 1894 [3] and was buried at Woodland Cemetery, London.[4]
