Sarah Matthews 22 (b) ca 1869 at Weston,Suffolk,Eng. 2 1901 Census Florence Matthews -age 10 -residing in Colchester. Church_St.Botolph 2 1911 Census : Florence Eva Matthews (b) ca 1891 at Sudbury,Eng. residing 1911 at Wivenhoe,Essex. 2 Little is known of my mother's childhood.She was the oldest one in a family of four girls and two boys. Her childhood years were spent in Colchester,England and she told us stories of the castle there and the Roman wall-Colchester being the oldest Roman town in England..She became engaged to a young soldier who lost his life in France in 1915. When she became a Red Cross Nurse in Feb.18 1918 her hometown was Wigborough where her father was a harnessmaker..She served in the Red Cross unitl March 17 1919. 2 I am sure she had to adjust to many things in her new life in Canada. but she quickly became a part of the communities she lived in.In New Glasgow she was very active in Trinity United Church and saw that we were also involved in the church life.She was a Past President of the Legion's Ladies Auxillary and an active member of the Ladies Music Club. Mum maintained her home in New Glasgow for seventeen years after my father's death and then moved to Hantsport where she lived on her own. When her health failed she made the decision to go to the "Windsor Elms where she died six years later. 2 National Archives Ref BT27/944 July 1921 -England. Steamship Line -Cunard. Name of ship-"Cameronia" bound for NY via Halifax. Departed Liverpool July 17 1921. Ticket No. 72918 3rd class. Name :Eva Matthews. Last Address in the UK: Brook House ,Tolleshunt D'Arcy,Esex. Occuption _Domestic. Age 30. Country of intended future permanent residence Canada. 2 From the"Orange " list: Mrs. Florence Worthylake, Grand Mistress of LOBA # 605 New Glasgow attended the 11th Annual Session of the Right Worshipful Grand Lodge of the LOBA at New Glasgow April 11 -12 1934. 2 2 Canada Passenger Lilsts : F.Worthylake -Immigration-July 1918 at Halifax on the Araguaya.
