Biography

James Mattingly was born in 1743, to unknown parents.

On February 12, 1760, he married Emma Corning, the daughter of David Corning and Priscilla Thistle of Beverly, Essex, Massachusetts[1] [2]. They emigrated to Yarmouth in 1765, a year after three of her siblings: Jonathan, Ebenezer and Susannah (Corning) Ellenwood[3]

Their children included:

  1. Priscilla, born October 20, 1760[4], who married Hezediah Porter Jr, and who died June 1846[2]
  2. Emma, born November 16, 1762[5], who married Lemuel Crosby, and who died October 1, 1822[2]
  3. Margaret, born July 29, 1765, who died young[2]
  4. Abigail, born May 6, 1767, who died young[2]
  5. John Baptiste, born June 24, 1769, who died young[2]
  6. James, born August 6, 1770, who died young[2]
  7. John, born Feb 13, 1772, who died young[2]
  8. Samuel, born October 6, 1774, who married Susanna (Unknown) of Beverly, Mass[2]
  9. Nancy, born Feb 24, 1776[2]
  10. Mary, born 1777, who married Levi Scovil, son of John Scovil, and who died April 10, 1860[2]
  11. Margaret, born Feb 23, 1778, who married Eliakim Killam son of John[2]
  12. Abigal, born September 13, 1781, who married Mark Killam, son of John, and who died August 13, 1855[2]

Emma Corning Mattingly died before 1786. On March 14, 1786, James remarried Mary Haskell, widow of William Haskell. The genealogy names her Mary (Pitman) Haskell, but she was not a widow at this time. It may have been Mary (Patten) Haskell, instead.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:
