Biography

Joseph "Buddy" Frank Maurer, 78, went to be with Jesus, his loved ones waiting to welcome him to his heavenly home. Joe was born on April 11, 1932 and raised in Victoria. He was the oldest of three sons born to the late G.H. and Caroline Maurer. He attended Patti Welder and St. Joe High School. He was a life-long Catholic and a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Cathedral.

In his youth, he spent time on the road with his first love, and his Indian and BSA motorcycles. He enjoyed being in the great outdoors as well as spending time in the country with his grandparents, Fred and Alma and his beloved dogs. Some of his other cherished hobbies were hunting, fishing and gun collecting.

He was a hard worker and a dedicated provider for his large family. He worked many years in both the oil field as a roughneck and tool pusher, as well as working as a mechanic in his family's business, Victoria Alignment Service.

If you were blessed to know Joe and his love for life, his stories, jokes, vivid personality, ideas, virtues and cowboys ways, these made him unique. He will be greatly missed by his family and countless friends.

He is survived by his daughters, Jodi (Roy) Hare of Vidor, Jill Hare, Juli Maurer, and Janeene Maurer, all of Victoria, Joi Maurer of Port Lavaca, and Jane Ezernack (Willis) of Silsbee; sons, Dwain Maurer, Blain Maurer, Shane Maurer (Laura) and Wesley Maurer (Connie), all of Victoria; step-children, Melodie (Larry) Gregory, Billy (Debbie) Yandell and Keith (Peggy) Yandell; brother, Fred Maurer (Gayle) of Victoria; 31 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jo Ann Yandell Maurer; brother, Eddie Gene Maurer; and grandparents, Fred and Alma Maurer.

The family received friends from 6-7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 7, 2011 at Grace Funeral Home. A rosary followed at 7 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Cathedral. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Warren Maurer, Shannon Maurer, Jordan Maurer, Colton Maurer, Quinton Maurer, Jeffery Newport, Tyler Newport, and Hugar Chavez

The family would like to say a special thanks to the staff at Citizens Medical Center, DeTar Triumph Hospital and the doctors who helped Joe in his final days.
